Poor Baby

broken arm

My youngest fractured her wrist.
Yes playing soccer.
Yes it sucks.
Yes she's upset.

She was at practice the other night and fell and as she went down she put out her hand to break her fall and broke her wrist instead. Officially it's called a "Buckle Fracture" but it hurts like a bitch and she' s going to be soccer-less for a few weeks.
Poor little child.
On the other hand. This weekend the she had a tournament all three days(multiple soccer occasions) and her sister has a game, a practice, a trip to the see Toronto FC and a team dinner.
Now we just have about half of that soooooooooo.
I know, I know it's not about me and maybe getting to relax a bit instead of driving to and from soccer junk all weekend but hey the wrist needs rest and so does Soccer Dad.

Sorry, but I've been busy

busy_receptionist

Really really busy.
I would love to drop you all a line but I've been the Running Man.
We've bid and won a big job at ACME recently and I'm in the middle of prepping that while shooting another.
Video that is.
In case some of you don't know I direct and produce Corporate videos. Some TV stuff too.

Anyway I know I've been lax in the Blog-Babble department but it's been ridonkulous around my life lately.
Yesterday I was in Brampton shooting at one location by 7:30 then off to Barrie for the rest of the day, followed by several hours of prep for this gig that we're shooting Friday.
Dang this having a real job is like work! And this is a job I love.
I'll post a few tid-bits if I can.
I've said this before I (nor most Radio nitwits) had no idea how lucky I was to intro records for a living.

FreddieP's got a brand new bag...

FP is a busy boy these days. He's on a bunch of different morning shows including a guest spot on the great John Derringers show last week and he's recently launched a brand new site.
Canadian Thinker.
Along with my pal Mike Boon, Fred has given birth to a place where people can meet to discuss the issues of the day. As it say at CT: " Canadian Thinker is a national forum for concerned Canadians to trump the politically correct. We know what you're thinking Canada. Now say it at CanadianThinker.com, a voice for what's right in Canada".

I know FP and MB would appreciate you having a look around Canadian Thinker and checking out the discourse.
Go here than come back some time.

Great Radio on TV

Great Radio is about telling stories. Here's old Radio-dude Jay Thomas, who is also a comic and a long time buddy of Letterman, telling Dave the Lone Ranger story.
Yes it's on a TV show but it's great Radio.

Hey I'm back. Check this out and try not to cry

My pal Mitch L sent me this bit of blubbering-inducing material.
It's a great story of sportsmanship and an insight into why athletics are so good for all kids.
Stay with the video for the whole thing and make sure you tell your co-workers you've got something in your eye.

I am SoccerDad

soccerdad

I am Soccer Dad.
I basically exist to drive my girls to and from Soccer.
It has taken the place of Flying and Golfing.
I will get back to those things someday but in the meantime I give you my Soccer Dad weekend.
Friday night: Race home pick up youngest Daughter and race to exhibition game in the wind and the rain. Other Soccer Dad tells me, "Only sissies use umbrellas!"
I'm bewildered by the use of the term "sissies!"
Game ends we head home to get some sleep.
Saturday morning: Wake up at 6:15 to get youngest Daughter to 7am practice. I have to leave early so I can drive oldest Daughter to a tournament.
Other Soccer Dad says, "What are you a part-timer?" I'm not even sure what he means but I say, "Umbrellas are for sissies" in an effort to confuse him.
Saturday: Drive oldest Daughter to Oshawa for tournament. Watch 2 games and then drive home in tsunami.
Sunday: Wake up at 6:15 to drive oldest Daughter back to Oshawa for one game and then back home. Other Soccer Dad yells so loudly he short-circuits my central nervous system.
All in all it was a fine time filled with too many Tim Hortons visits a lot of laughs and some interesting new information.
Apparently Real Men are impervious to the rain, only sissies use umbrellas and the above schedule only qualifies me for "Part-Time" Soccer Dad status.

I am IronMan

Go see this. I took a break from driving kids to soccer and checked out IronMan.
Great movie from beginning to end.
Robert Downy Jr.is IronMan and he does a great job. Maybe one of the most underrated actors of our time.
Probably would have had more accolades if he hadn't spend much of the 90's on heroin.
The movie is directed by Jon Favreua the chubby dude from Swingers. Excellent job.
It also stars Jeff Bridges as the Evil Bald Guy, Terrence Howard, as the Best Buddy and Gwyneth Paltrow as the Able Assistant.
Btw I want to officially induct Gwyneth into the Vagenius Hall of Fame.
Ironman is a 123 minutes and is one of those rare 2 hour plus movies that seems short.

gwyneth-paltrow
Vagenius Extrodinaire.

Soccer Mom says jump, I say...

...how hi?
My pal Toni who's daughter I used to coach during the building of my indoor soccer dynasty has a nifty little bloggy thing of her own.
She has asked that I send along this bit of her stuff so that the vast Hhdotcom network can benefit.
It's an interesting conundrum.
It's the story of Ted who simply asked someone who was smoking to move from in front of his restaurant.
Seems simple enough.
Now for those of you that are still on Steve's side I will tell you that Steve's solution was to blackmail Ted. He wanted an apology and $1000 from Ted. And to that, I say this ~ My friends that is a total joke!! If he was just a someone who had a cigarette and he was told to move that would have been the end of the story. I am sure some bleeding heart supporter of Steve's told him to take it to human rights and that is a total crock.

For the rest of the story go here.

It has since started millions of conversations around the world.

Did you know?
Interesting.

LKTYP.

logo_lktyp_163
Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People is a group that I volunteer with.
(Used to be called YPT. Ah now you know what I'm talking about!)
I've been on the board of directors for three year and I must say it's been an amazing experience.
The staff, the people and the work.
They do amazing theatre for young people and we're getting some nice press for a play about Meth addiction called Cranked.
This is from a recent article in the Globe and Mail.
As Cranked opens, Stan, a young hip-hop MC, is comparing the slow, lumbering zombies of old movies to the speedier ones of today's horror flicks. To him, the modern running undead seem more realistic: "When you crave flesh ... When it is the sole thing in the universe that you can focus on and you want it as bad as your next breath of air? Oh yeah, you will run."

LKTYP does plays for kids of all ages and obviously Cranked isn't for your 5 years-old. But it's perfect for your teen or soon to be.
Check out the rest of the article here and for more info and tickets go here.
Thank you.

The New iPhone and why I can't have it.

Iphone
I understand Uncle Ted Rogers will be bringing in the Apple iPhone sooner than later. Rogers profits are already soaring but he took time out from counting his mountains of cash to mention yesterday that even he is getting concerned about Ontario's economy. I don't think he's personally concerned, after he's got lots of dough and I imagine he's already on the Rogers Wireless network. Lucky Ted.
I'm with Bell.
Year 2 of a 3 year contract.
No iPhone for me even if I wanted it cause I'm being held hostage by Bell. It's the same with most carriers-you sign the deal and get the cheap Blackberry and you're locked in.
Yes I can get out of it but I'll have to pay and the incentive just isn't there.(If I could I'd bolt and get the iPhone the first chance I got.)
It's a quirk of the wireless system that we're all tied up in these multi-year deals and are penalized in order to exit.
The pay-for-use phones are probably the best but they aren't Blackberry or Razr's and they certainly aren't the iPhone. Which I can't have. Maybe I'll borrow Ted's.

Neil Diamond Night on Idol...

...and I'd forgotten how much I liked Neil D.
Neil Diamond was the kids "Mentor", really just an excuse to pimp his catalogue.
Did you know that the Neil has sold over 120 million records? Thats a lot of gelt.
The Idol hope-fuls covered a bunch of tunes and if I'm being honest all of them were a bit tepid.
Dave Cook was the best of the luke-warms and I think that Brooke-I'm hot but annoying is going home.
I was checking out The Boon and was reminded of an Urge Overkill version of a Neil tune they covered for Pulp Fiction.
Here is Neil doing the original Girl you'll be a Women soon.

For more fun check out this BBC clip with The Neil and his Giant Hair doing I am I said. Great tune and a real old school TV clip filled with the cheesy dissolves and dreamy close ups.

Hey Apparently there were no WMD's.WTF?

No no this isn't some expose on the bullshit reasons and lies the Bush administration told to take the American people into a fake war with Iraq. Although that's part of it.
It's a tale about a new way of distributing movies. Free. Not steal the movie off Bit Torrent but free on purpose.
This is from an article my pal Sandi O sent me.
The release of LEADING TO WAR pushes the boundaries of film distribution
beyond the new media strategies of even the most forward-thinking Hollywood
studios. Taking a page from the Web 2.0 playbook, the producers of LEADING TO
WAR are offering the complete film online for free via progressive streaming
or download at www.LeadingToWar.com.

They go on to talk about the Freemium Business model where you give away your product or service, like Flickr and then if you like it and want the upgrade or premium version you pay for it.
Check out the rest of the article here and then go to LeadingtoWar.com. The film is riveting.
Apparently there really weren't any Weapons of Mass Destruction and Mr. Bush and his cronies may have actually told a fib or two along the way.
