When small planes go down people always worry over me being a pilot.
Yesterday's tragic/bizarre crash of pitcher Cory Lidle's plane brought out a bunch of my pals asking me about it. I always say the same thing. You should be more worried about driving on the QEW or the 401.
GA pilots do all we can to be safe. We make sure the plane is in working order, fueled correctly and fit before every flight. Pilot error is the cause of the majority of small plane crashes and we all try and minimize that to the best of our ability.
I don't know what happened yesterday in New York. We pilots all feel a special kinship whenever anything like that happens, but for the most part it won't prevent us from going up again.
Just a little fyi on the plane he was flying. It is the only small plane I know of that's equipped with a parachute!
