Damm it. Team Teal had it going on last night for the first half. Inspired, gritty play and we led Team Purple 1-zip. Uh 1-nil. Whatever.
Charlie G hammered a nice shot on the net and a great save by Team Purple's goalie produced a juicy rebound booted in by Dee Dee. Plus, one of the many girls named Rachel was in our nets and was outstanding, stopping all Team P had to offer.
The second half. Not so much.
Our play grew sloppy and Team Purple led by one of my daughter's pals Brooke stormed back and blew by us to a decisive 5-1 victory.
I was proud of my girls effort even though we lost. I could see my strategy of yelling till I lost my voice was taking hold.
I was slugging hot lemon water throughout the contest, but by the end of the game I was reduced to a loud croaking , "Go Nicole, Go Rachel". (Which encompasses fully half of my team...as many of them,as you may or may not know, seem to be named Nicole or Rachel.. some of them both!)
The great football coach Lou Holtz used to say, "“You're never as good as everyone tells you when you win, and you're never as bad as they say when you lose.”
Next week we take on the powerhouse Team Pink.
Love to hang around but I've got some game film to review.
