Canada's Team of Destiny.

SenatorsCome on Toronto, isn't it time to get behind the Senators? Isn't it time to support an Ontario team that's just one win away from the Stanly Cup finals. Something an Ontario team hasn't done since people used to smoke in Hospital rooms?

I know this type of talk drives Leaf fans nuts. I feel bad for several of my best pals who love the Leafs and wished with all their hearts they didn't suck. But they do and that's a drag.

For years like you, I used to love watching the Leafs beat the Choke-Squad from our nationals capitol every spring. It was good times and special, happy days for all. But then the Leafs stopped making the playoffs and Ottawa stopped choking and losing and now it's just not as much fun anymore.
Winning a bunch of games can do that to the Leafs Nation.
The Senators are going to the Stanly Cup finals and the Leafs having been golfing for nearly a month.

Yes it will be painful to watch but maybe a team from this province will win the Cup again after 40 long, pathetic, ticket-price raising years.
Go Sens Go.

As long as it stays in Canada, I don't care who wins the Cup

Like Freddie P, I'm a true, blue Leafs fan and when it comes to the playoffs and our beloved Leafs are out golfing, it's ABO (Anybody But Ottawa) for me. Couldn't give a crap that they are the only "Canadian" team left. They are led by the refugee from the Simpsons (Krusty the Klown) even though he has had a haircut, and he ain't Canadian anyway, and I hate the fact that he has a chance to hold the Holy Grail aloft before the Leafs captain, Sundin! Also the Senaturds owner is a traitor to this country anyway, by living abroad most of the year he avoids paying his taxes, so based on that, who really paid for that team, us, the Canadian taxpayer, that's who. And he wants Canadians to support them! Like hell! I will watch each and every game and hope fervently that the Senaturds choke yet again, if not against Buffalo then against whoever they face in the Cup final, and I hope it's Detroit and Hasek, coz they'll chew the Sens up and spit them back out!
GO ABO! GO!
PS Buffalo ain't dead, yet, twitching maybe, but not quite dead. Pray to Jesus for a resurrection!

I can't cheer for Ottawa. Your pleas have fallen on deaf ears. ;)

Go, Sens, go!!!! I've had a soft spot in my heart for the Sens these last few years. They're like the Little Team That Could. :)

But then, I'm not a Leafs fan, nor will I ever be. It boggles my mind how avid Leafs fans are - it's less a hockey team fandom than a full-blown religion now. I mean, this is the only team I've ever heard of where fans will STILL pay exorbitant prices to go to games NO MATTER HOW POORLY THEIR TEAM PLAYS.

I mean, any other city in N. America, their team chokes, the fans stop going. They may follow the team's progress at home, but they won't pay money to go watch their team choke year after year after year. This motivates the owners to do everything in their power to make their team successful.

Leafs owners? They don't give a crap if the Leafs ever make another playoffs, and it shows. In every draft pick, in every trade, in every decision they make, especially since the salary cap (and even before), it really, really shows.

They don't give a crap whether the Leafs do well because they know that no matter how they run the team, no matter how much they charge, no matter if a black hole opens up in Whitby and swallows up half of Ontario, the Leafs fan will still find a way to go to the games. The only thing that would keep them from attending a game is if the team was sold to Albuquerque.

I praise the fans for their fiscal loyalty. But really. Enough with the bitterness already.

Besides, dudes? Battle of the Albertas is huge out west, but you know what? As a Flames fan, a former citizen of Calgary, and a life-long basher of Edmonton and all it stands for, I will still cheer for the Oilers if they make the finals and the Flames don't. And so would every Flames fan I know.

What does that say about you guys?

It says that we're more passionate about our team than you are about the Flames, and that come hell or high water, we will not support the hated Senaturds. What's so hard to understand?

If any of the Western Canadian teams are the only Canadian team left, I will support them. If the Habs are the only Canadian team left, I might support them, but more than likely I won't. I will not, ever, under any circumstances support the Senators. I will grudgingly admit that they are playing very good hockey, and that they are more than likely going to get to the Cup final this year, unless Buffalo can work a miracle (oh I'm praying), but I will not support them, I will cheer for whichever team they face.

And should they win the cup, then I will probably go into a deep depression, possibly even needing to be committed and put under a suicide watch!
