This is what cool boarders look like. This is not me.

This is not me either but it could be.

I love learning new things. I always have. Flying, riding a uni-cycle, juggling and now how to type with a jammed thumb and ripped shoulder.
Yes the Old man has been taking snowboarding lessons.
3 days.
9 hours.
Dozens of falls.
7 bruised ass-bones. 1 bruised rib. 6 near concussions, the aforementioned jammed thumb and torn/strained rotator cuff.
And I freaking loved it.
Everyone said it would take about 2-3 days, a lot of falling and that around hour 5 it would click.
They were right almost to the minute.
The first day I crashed and bounced around the baby hill with the other 6 year olds and all I did was fall.
Fall standing still. Fall moving left or right. Fall trying to stand up.
Second day we went to the grown up hills and I had a series of bone-jarring crashes that left me wondering why the hell I was putting myself through this. After all I am a male-model and therefore make my living with my face and body.(Just seeing if you're still paying attention.)
Then all of a sudden just as blood was starting to trickle from my ear. I put a few turns together and dagnabbit I was doing it. I was boarding. Looking cool, riding the slopes like some giant white wave and then, Bam. I skied into a bush.
Day 3 was a revelation. I dig this.
My 13 year old Charlie G, who's been boarding for a couple of years and I spent the day on the slopes together. I was able to get halfway down the hill before I'd either have to stop from fatigue or I'd slide/fall/trip into a heap of pain on the ground.
The big epiphany? I like it better than skiing.
Seriously. I've been on ski's since I was 19 and yet in three days I already liked boarding more.
Maybe because it's new or a challenge or presents a different feeling of freedom.
All I know is if I ever get back the use of my thumb or shoulder or my headache finally goes away, I'm definitely going to do it again.
