This is the start of Masters Week.
Yes it's a whole week. The actual "Tuna-Ment" stars on Thursday but as of today, the players arrive and The Golf Channel will have all sorts of stories from Augusta.
I love this time of the year and I look forward to watching the coverage like it was the Super Bowl.
It's the first Major of the year in men's golf and of course I will be cheering for Tiger.
But what about Weirsy?
I like him too. In fact his win at August in 2003 was by far my favorite Masters' Moment. Even more than Tigers 4-so far.
I usually watch the last round by myself but I have in the last few years watched a round or two with some other pals. Last year I wrote this piece called Rules for Watching the Master with Me.
Here it is again for your merriment.
Rules for watching the Masters with Howard.
1)Don’t ask stupid questions. Pointing at David Howell and saying “Who’s that guy?” is a stupid question. Also why is Phil’s caddy nicknamed “Bones?” qualifies.
2)Say very little. Nodding, grunting or exclaiming “unbelievable” is acceptable.
3)If you have something to say that requires more than a word or two, pause the PVR, say it and then go back to not saying anything.
4)Do not cheer against Tiger. If you have something negative to say about Tiger, write it down and send it to me later. I’ll receive and delete it on my own time.
5)Do criticize Phil Mickelson at your leisure. If the criticism will take more than a word or two see Rule 3. “Nice shot, fat-boy” and “Good putt Mickel-boobs” are fine retorts and can be sprinkled in through out the Masters-watching.
6)Don’t ask me what I’d think you’d shoot at Augusta. The answer is 140.
7)While watching the Masters don’t ask me about anything that’s not golf or Masters-related. Everything’s fine and I’m not really listening.
8)Don’t mock my Tiger Woods bobble-head. It’s my lucky Tiger-charm and you’ll hurt his feelings.
9)Yes, Mike Weir has a chance; no it’s not a very good one.
Finally,
10)When in doubt say nothing. Watch the TV, enjoy your snacks, keep your hands off the bobble-head and we’ll all get along

Sorry HH Far ,far more important than the Masters is the start of Motorcycle riding season. Ok I could do without the Harleys with the straight pipes as well but the wind in your face etc etc. And just bought a new (to Me) bike so watching TV is out :) And for all you HHdotcom Peeps please keep an eye out for bikes while driving around in your oversize SUV's and talking on your cells. Thanks

Argie,
Nows it's time for you to wake up. Let me guess, it would be better for the game if someone other than Tiger, blah blah rivalry and blah and he's not that good.
Whatev Kev.
I'm still hoping it's Tiger and I'd be happy to debate you as to whey he's the best thing to happen to the sport since Arnie won his first Canadian open back in the late 50's.
Ask any tour player now just how good TW has been for their pocketbook. Maybe not their ego's but that's because he wins more in a month than most of them will in a lifetime.
Happy Masters Week.

I agree his impact has been huge. I don’t think its been a positive impact though. The popularity of golf has obviously increased in the past 12 years since Tiger arrived which has caused not only an increase in the number of people playing golf but an increase in green fees. I pay for my own rounds (no expense card here) so I don’t like having to pay more than I believe a green fee is really worth. I also resent playing 5.5 hour rounds of golf when it used to take 4 hours max.
As for comparing him to Arnie – who cares about Arnie? The real king of golf is Jack. Nuff said.
Anyway enjoy the Masters.

I see your point...no Tiger less people playing, cheaper, faster rounds.
OKay, higher fees aside most of which is due to an explosion of courses being built-mainly as real estate plays and not due to Golf's increased popularity,
slow golf is a direct result of newer players. And Jack. Jack N, also one of my all-timers, is aka the Grandfather of slow play. He took forever to pull the trigger, a bunch of us hacks thought that was the key and the whole game came to a grinding halt.
The point about Arnie was just that he was responsible for a huge increase in the games popularity, ratings and revenue. Sound familiar.
Happy Master Week to you RG.

The same spike in interest that has gripped golf the past 12 years (We shall call these 'The Tiger Years') also occurred in tennis back in the 80's (The Bjorn Borg/John McEnroe Years)
Tennis courts sprang up in subdivisions everywhere, and everyone was learning (or trying) tennis. The good news is that the tennis courts are mostly vacant now (and have been for over a decade).
The same will happen with golf. It'll just take a while. And we'll all be back playing our 4 hour rounds.

Argie? What? No one to argue with at Freddie P's or T Mike's ??? You got to start picking on HH. Your whining about the state of golf likens to people complaining that there is too much traffic on the roads. People driving too slow.(getting in your way) Costing more money to drive.(407)Thanks Mike H....good solution! Oil prices on the rise. All because of Henry Ford!!! Get out of the way peeps, Argie's on the Tee......407 riders clear the road, Argie was here first and his money is better than yours........give me, me, me a break!!!!!
