This is Trevor Immelman, he is the 2008 Masters Champion and deservedly so. I mentioned on Saturday that his swing is crazy-good and it turns out his insides are okay too.
On Sunday when everyone else was backing up and vomiting in their own mouths, Trev hung in there and finished the job.
Yes he shot 75. Yes he was a bit lucky (that shot on 15 Saturday goes in the water every other time in history...) Yes he made a few that he shouldn't have and got a few good bounces but that pretty much describes every Major winner, including TW.
Ah Tiger. He played nicely from tee to green but in the end putted like shite. Plain and simple.
He hit the ball good enough to win but his overall performance was only good enough for second. For the second year in a row.
(For about a minute yesterday it got exciting. After TW sank that monster putt on 11 and Trevor looked like he would bogey and Tiger would birdie 13 but then...no. TW misses the putt, Trev sinks his and that's that.)
I always say that it's not so much about Tiger winning for me, but about him always being in contention. (The winning part is cool too.) But I have to admit that even though he finished second he was never really in contention.
Last year after my first Fatherless Masters I wrote this.
Still makes me sad.
