He was Tiger before Tiger. He is the last guy to be #1 in the world for any length of time.
He is 53 years old.
WTF?
I use to watch Greg Norman a lot back in the day. He either won easily or lost spectacularly but he was never boring to watch.
In 1986 he led all four majors going into the last round and won only the British Open. He is a hall of famer who most golf observers would say had a disappointing career in the majors.
Never won the US Open, The PGA or The Masters.
Ah yes The Masters.
The last time Greg Norman contended in a major was the 1996 Masters. Probably the most heart-wrenching golf event I or anyone else had ever witnessed for it's sheer pathos.
He led by 6 going into Sunday and melted down hole by hole...ended up shooting 78 and lost to Nick Faldo.
That was the end. That was his swang song. Too bad considering he'd been the Man for over a decade and after that a new Man would take over for the next 10 years.
Now this.
Tigers is out for the year and the most compelling story in sport is about to unfold today. If Greg Norman can hang on he'll be the oldest player to win a major by 5 years.
He's the new/old Man. He's got a new bride, he's in better shape than most 33 year olds and he's been here before. Which is both a good and bad thing. With Norman you never know, he could win it easily or let it slip away, but one thing it won't be is boring.
I know I'll be watching and cheering for him. Again.

I was cheering, the wife was cheering but, all too early this last round he started the meltdown.
