Steven Page-sad story

stevenpage

I feel bad for Steven Page.
I have always liked him and he has never been anything but a decent, stand-up guy where I am concerned.
Years ago we(CFNY and Fred and I) did him and BNL a little solid and he and the lads never forgot us.
Anytime, no matter how big they'd gotten, they always answered our call and for many years- passed the point of payback, they played our annual Christmas party.
Now Steven P is in a spot of trouble.
Who knows the real story but I feel terrible that he'll be dragged through the mud no matter what this turns out to be.

I heard he left his wife about a year ago and he's been running at it pretty hard for a while.
Doesn't matter to me, all I know is he's a good guy who will hopefully get some help and get his business straightened out.
One of my fondest Steven Page memories is of playing the song Brian Wilson on the guitar while he sang it at one of our H+F Xmas shows while we were at MOJO. Ed and the rest of the guys couldn't make it that year, but Fred and I promised to join the NDP if Steve would play our show.
We did(much to our chagrin...I think Freddie is still scarred!) and he came through.
I remember talking to him on the phone about the chords and thinking, "Wow, the guy who wrote one of my favorite songs is actually teaching me how to play it!"
Needless to say, playing it with him live was a huge buzz for me.
Thats why I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
He's a good, solid, decent guy who's in some trouble and for that I am sorry.
I wish him nothing but well.

Howard, I Remember that very show, I was there in the front watching and enjoying every minute of it. I came up for three of the Christmas shows waking up at 3:00 in the morning and making the trek from Grand Island...What made the one at the MOJO at Hard Rock was that after the Show I was at HMV and Steve was there shopping, I went bought their greatest hits that had just come out and had him autograph it to my mom who is a huge fan as well. That was her Christmas present and when I met him, he seemed every bit the same guy that you saw on stage. I hope he gets well because I miss the Ladies and their music and like you said, he really is a great guy.
If you talk to any of the guys or Steve himself, let him know we are all pulling for him no matter what the outcome and he can get over this.

Hi Howard, I made it to the Xmas show where you played with Steve and it was another one for the scrap book - well done.

You got it right that BNL stand by the ones that were there when it all started.

As far as Steven Page - you hit it right on the head - when you find yourself in trouble - your friends support you - your enemies attack you. Steven isn't the first and he won't be the last to have trouble with relationships, drugs, and the law. The best part of his situation is that no one died and he can get these problems in the past and move on to enjoy the rest of his great life. Good on ya for standing by him as you have for many of your friends including me!

Steven is a good boy.
And you rocked out on Brian Wilson.
He will pull through.

I think he made a human mistake. People are forgiven for less. Seems like a stand-up guy that does a lot of charities to me. Hopefully he will lay low and pull through.

Hey

I was the warm up for Howard that morning, with my scottish chanter set, and actually talked to Steven while waiting to go on stage and remember him making me laugh with his comment on the chanter...

I also wish him the very best and see that its not going to be a easy road ahead but hopefully he recovers fast and gets back to full health soon

Good luck steve!

Life IS messy...but we don't like to admit it. CS Lewis said that "pain is God's megaphone to a deaf world"...maybe this will be Steve's "shout-out" to get help. It takes courage and not weakness ot get help. Besides, if we were all perfect...? ...I'll just leave it at that.

Steve definitely was a humble, unpretentious Canadian, who has a knack to make every feel comfortable around him. Unfortunately having a clean cut Canadian image probably made the situation for him worst with the media. Unfortunately it only takes one moments lapse in judgement to destroy a reputation that has taken a lifetime to build.

Hope he gets things in order and we get to hear the BNL once again.

Let the courts decide before condemning. Darn, I missed that year hh. That would have been excellent to have seen.
