Interviews

Another week in the books...

and the Friday nap is just finished.
The Friday nap is the best nap of the week because I don't have to set my alarm and I just wake up when my body is done.
The rest of the week I force myself up after an hour and even though I need the sleep, when I first wake up it's like I've been in a mini-coma.
The Friday nap is great because when I do come up for air I can tell where I am as opposed to wondering whose taken me hostage.
On the Big Radio Broadcast we had quite a week of guests. Natasha Bedinfeild (Delicious) Dr. Oz (Opraha's guy) and Russel Peters.
All pretty fascinating but Russel was the most interesting to me. He was surprisingly Humble and grounded and horny for Colleen.(Which I get)
An all around good dude for a guy who sells out arena's in Canada, the US and India!
I told him my 13 year-old was a big fan and he immediately signed a piece of paper and asked for a picture to be taken.
Nice gesture from a nice (typical) Canadian superstar.

Hi Charlie

The Legendary Cham Morning show and Mike Nabuurs.

(This is the only picture of these doofusses that I could find!)

I'm going back on the Legendary Cham Morning show Friday, but this time Live in Studio.
Wow.
This is significant for a couple of reasons.
A)Jay Farr and Tom Park are great guys and I'll be able to pimp the Slime for Valentines Day.
B)I'm finally going to meet Mike Nabuurs in person.
C)Why is that such a big deal Howard?
D)Okay I'll stop with the letters.

For years Mike was a major contributor to the Humble Report. I used some of the topics and bits from his hilarious service Laff Fax. In the old days it really was a fax. Later when this dagnabbit internet thing took off, Laff Fax became an e-mail that I looked forward to every night so I could get a head start writing the H Report.

His style was perfectly suited to mine and we had a relationship(non-life partner) that lasted nearly 15 years.
But I've never met him.
We talked on the phone all the time but Friday will be the first time we actually are going to see each other in person. Isn't that freaking weird.

I'll bet he's going to cry. Not me, I'll be strong, but later I'll go home and sit in the dark and write a song or something.

Tune in at 8:40 to 820 CHAM Friday Feb 9th, for all the hilarity and Oprah-like emotion.

Kevin Newman, yeah the dude from Global National!

I was playing around with Odeo my audio uploading file sorting/sharing thingy and I came across a bunch of interviews with people I'd had on my show. There's quite a list of peeps from Kevin Smith to Jake Gold to Al Waxman. Sadly I don't have that train-wreck. Al was the only guy Fred and I ever interviewed that got super pissed off at us and all because I asked him how many Canadian Tire points you needed to get the Order of Canada.

Anyway here is a little something with Kevin Newman( a great guy) from the Post Freddy P( also a great guy) year at the Mix.

Jim Richards Show Part One

I thought you might dig hearing a little longer HH interview. I was hanging out with the very talented Jim Richards Monday night on the mighty RB and I must say it was a lot of fun.
I've been a big Jim fan for a long time and this was our first time in a studio together.
I'll put up all three parts and you can listen at your leisure.
Or not.
Here is part one...highlighted by a very bizarre caller named Cabbie who seemed to know a lot about both Jim and I.
Enjoy.

Jim Richards Show Part Two

This is a slighter shorter clip of my Jim Richards show appearance.
Jim is not only one of the best talk show dudes in the city he is also a funny guy who is not afraid to laugh when some else says something funny. You know what I mean?
This segment includes a call from a very nice person named Kim.

Jim Richards Show Part Three

You see how I'm stretching this out and actually getting three posts of out it as opposed to lumping it all together in one post? I'm hoping you'll think I'm actually working harder for you than I really am.
This was the last segment Monday night with Jim Richards on his show which is called The Jim Richards show. (Okay, now I really am stretching it)

This part includes some funny chat about cold dogs and lonely authors.
Enjoy.

On the Air with The Slime Again!

Tonight between 9-9:30 I'll be live in studio with Jim Richards. With out too much hyperbole he is simply one of the best broadcasters in the city. I thought so even before he and his producer Richard Syrett booked me.
He is funny, quirky, smart and empathetic and almost impossible to turn off. On several occasions I have been sitting in my driveway listening to Jimberly and not able to shut the car off until he's finished the segment. Of course I could listen to the Nighttime Friendly inside my home but I choose not to.
Jim's good. He could probably cure things if he wanted.

Later this week I'll be sitting down for an one on one with The Oakville Beaver. That's right I'll be talking to The Beaver. How many more sleeps?
The Beaver wants to talk Slime for Valentines day. That's cool. I enjoy Beaver Talk and I look forward to many more juvenile Beaver references. I'm immature.

Friday you can see me on The Gill Deacon Show.

She is very nice and bright and I was on with the Very Talented Trevor Boris. This dude is a funny stand-up who is going to be famous one day. Not just Canadian Famous but Real Famous. Google him. There's lots' of video clips of his act and you can also catch him on Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Actually if you just go to CBC.ca, search Winnipeg Comedy Festival, some of his stuff is there.

Carlos Benevides is a good Boy!

This morning on Dave Fm my old pal Carlos from the Edge had me on and he couldn't have been better, nicer, more accommodating.
I really appreciate it.
Here's the note I got from Carlos...

Hey Howard ... thanks for coming on the show this morning ... it was a pleasure and no suprise .. .you were great ... Gayle and I made sure to give you and the book another plug and we gave away all 5 copies of the Slime ... the phone lines went nuts ... We also both wrote about you and the book in our blogs and linked to your website from there ... we also passed along your website to out prep service so hopefully more interviews will come from that ...

What a great guy and as I say, much appreciated.
Once again Mike Boon has come through with the genius and here's the interview.
SlimeTalk

On the Radio Again

I was out doing publicity for The Slime That Men Do again yesterday and it was the weirdest day so far.
Being back on the Mix, sitting in my old chair and talking on my old mic was beyond bizarre.
I'll have the Mp3 of it later. I was on The STeve Anthony Show and it was fun. I even got a few calls after from some nice people who were happy to hear me again. I took a picture with Steve before I left the studio...
IMG_0382%20%28Small%29.jpg Hey Mr. Sweaty Pits

Then I recorded an interview with John Moore. Originally I was supposed to do it live but Garth Turner got punted from the PC Caucus and well that was it. Actually pretty funny listening to Garth talk about how he would now have a meeting with his "Cock-cus" in the shower!
The interview is scheduled for this afternoon, I imagine in the same time zone...5:30-6. I'll get the MP3 of it when I can.
IMG_0379%20%28Small%29.jpg Man I must have been Nervous! Nice Pit Stain!

Iron Mike in The Morning and me

Couple of years ago I hung out with this guy in New Orleans and he is the real deal. We had a few dinners and a bunch of drinks and you couldn't find a nicer more down to earth dude.
Thanks Iron Mike for having me on you show.

Fresh Interview With Toronto Mike!

Toronto Mike conducted an interview with me. Here it is for your enjoyment.

Q: Let's address the 2000 kg elephant in the room and get it over with. You were on the radio in this city for seventeen years until last month. What the hell happened? This isn't the National Post, give us the real scoop.

A: The scoop? Nothing you haven't heard. I was hired, I worked, I was fired. They decided to go in a different direction... first without Fred and then without me.

Q: Since that fateful day in July, over 300 fans have dropped by http://www.mikeboon.com/2006/07/humble_howard_are_you_okay.html to let you know how damn missed you are. How does that feel?
A: Amazing. I can't believe that many people give a crap. I have read all the comments and I can tell you it feels great to have had even a little impact on people's lives. Fred and I have spoken quite a bit recently about the nice things people have said especially when it comes to a possible Humble and Fred Reunion on Satellite.

Q: Most readers of this site are from the Great White North. Please share with us the details of your Canadian roots. We love CanCon.
A: No, I love CanCon. Trooper, Chilliwack, BTO, Glass Tiger - all the way to BNL and The Tragically Hip. Not to mention that frisky minx Nelly Furtado.

As for me... 5 provinces. Moose Jaw, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto. Many radio stations, a kids TV show, the asinine puppet show and some standup.

Q: I listened to your entire career at CFNY. That was my station and the Humble & Fred morning show was my wake up call every morning throughout high school and university. In 1991, you disappeared for while. What the heck happened there?
A: I left to go to CKFM in May of 1991. The Spirit was gone and I needed to get a real job.

After Labor Day 91 the station became the Mix. 19 months later I went back to work at CNFY which almost immediately became THE EDGE. I missed working with Fred and thought he and I did our best radio together.

Q: There are rumours on the internets that your relationship with Fred Patterson is a lot like the infamous chilly relationship between Siskel and Ebert. How do you two get along when the microphone is turned off?
A: We get alone fine... see my answer above.

A few people have questioned my staying at the Mix after Fred was fired... Fred wasn't one of them. I can't believe some questioned my loyalty to Fred by not quitting when he was canned. I had a family to feed and he was being paid... if I quit I wouldn't have been - plain and simple. I guess we could have gone to live with him and his wife but it might have been a little crowded.

Q: What's your favourite movie?
A: The Godfather.

Q: You were a regular on The Dini Petty show on CTV. What's she like? She was born in England, ya know.
A: Dini was fine. I didn't know she was from England, her teeth seemed fairly straight to me.

Q: I hear things didn't end well with you and the sock on Ed's Night Party? Care to dish the deets?
A: I don't want to say anything about ED or the midget that has his hand up his ass that hasn't already been said by just about everyone that's met him.

Q: What's next for Humble Howard? Are you okay? Any chance of a Humble & Fred reunion?
A: I'm busy doing nothing... I'm okay and I would look for a Humble and Fred reunion sooner rather than later.

Q: Is there anything you'd like to share with the MikeBoon.com faithful?
A: I would only like to say that this blog and the comments on it are the main reason I get out of bed every day... that and the booze.

Also, I would like to add that I've met Mike Boon and you sir are no Mike Boon.

As well I would like everyone who reads this to know Mike Boon is a slow eater. Should they ever be lucky enough to dine with you they should put aside a minimum of 90 minutes for breakfast, 2 hours 15 for lunch and at least 3 hours 20 for supper. These figures are estimates, actual Mike Boon eating times may vary.
