Radio

Some old Me.

A couple of Augusts ago I found myself alone on the air and in need of a new friend. I called around the Radio station until I found Carl the IT guy. It was quite a discovery as Carl was a nice guy who seemed to want to be my pal.
Our friendship lasted 3 episodes and thanks to Rusty P I'm able to play them for you hear.
Enjoy.
Episode 1 Carl and I are still friendly.

Episode 2 Things are started to breakdown.

Episode 3...The End.

Andy Barrie's new PD.

Andy Barrie announced he had early-stage Parkinson's to his staff and CBC peeps this week.
The story was on the cover of The Star today and I felt bad for him.
Until I read the reprint of an e-mail he sent out.
He doesn't want to be pitied and he is going to face this with the same class and intelligence he has done everything else.

You see I like Andy Barrie.
I always thought he was the gold standard in the city and the numbers bear that out.
He is the #1 Morning guy in town and that's something that drives the private broadcast types insane.
He deserves it.
When I was at CKFM/The Mix the first time back in 91-92 he was doing mid mornings and I thought he was great.
I talked to him quite often and always found him to be a great guy and a smart cookie.

He says he is disabled but not unable and I hope is able enough to continue being more than capable for as long as he likes.

Hi Captain Phil?

I received an e-mail the other day from my old pal Phil Evans, promo wizard from the old Edge days.
He's verbally adept and intellectually agile and I always enjoyed our discussions.
He's responsible for many of the most clever Humble and Fred Really Tough Contest bits.
Here's Phil now.

Yesterday I sent him a note saying to give me a call sometime and a few minutes later, there he was.
We talked about the business and our place in it. (He's the one with the job still...)
We're both about the same age and have been at this for some time and like a lot of people of our ilk, we were wondering where it could all lead.
Phil is very bright and would be a great PD/GM I think. He could also transfer his skills to any business that needed a creative/funny guy that people like to be around.

It's nice to catch up with people who were actually there when you were doing some of your best work. If for no other reason than to confirm you weren't looking back and making half the crap up!
Phil's still creative and a good guy to chit chat with. Check out his junk here.

The Countdown is still on but now you know!

Only 3 more sleeps and then the thing. Mike Boon's done a great job blogging about it and Dan Duran has put together a cool promo.

Let me tell you it was a blast and I think you'll enjoy listening to it. We had a lot of laughs and it made me get a little of my radio appetite back. To be honest I haven't really had a real hankerin' (yes I said hankerin') to do any thing but pimp my book on the radio. But this little podcast thing was fun and I would love to do more. Who knows what will happen in 2007. Okay I do but I can't tell you yet.

Me and the Legendary Cham Morning Show

For a guy with no gig I'm on the Radio a lot.
Yesterday Tom Park and Mike Nabuurs and I laughed it up over this whole Slime thing.

This morning I was on with Terry, Ted and Kim, the legendary Chom Fm morning show in Montreal.
Hopefully I'll be able to post that for you later.

Busy Busy Slime Time

This morning I'll be on The Legendary Morning Show in Hamilton on 820 CHAM!
I'm not crapping ya.

These dudes do a great job and I'm very appreciative of their offer of a spot to promote the Slime.

One of the guys, Mike Nabuurs, has been a friend of mine for over 15 years and yet I've never met him in person.
He's been a part of almost every day of my morning show and yet we've never actually worked together.
Intrigued? Give up? Okay I'll tell you.

Mike has a comedy prep service called Laff Faxx and I used it for a very long time. I realize this may be bursting the bubble for some of you but believe me Dave doesn't write all his jokes on the Letterman show either. No I'm not comparing myself to him so don't get all freaky on me.
Years ago I realized that at 6 jokes a day, 250 days a year I was going to need some help and Mike Nabuurs was that help. He's very very funny.
I didn't use all his jokes, sometime I just started with his premises and I wrote the punch-line, but very often his bits were the inspiration for some of the best Humble Report stuff on my show.

In later years I got some more help from Bingo Bob who continues to throw out the funny hereToday
I'll finally be on the radio with a guy who's been on the radio with me in spirit for almost my entire time here in TO. Should be interesting. Probably end up being as funny as pus!

Me with Sunni and Hayes.

Friday morning, Sunni and Hayes on K-Lite in Hamilton had me on talking Slime. These two nice people have like a 50 share of the market and well deserved. Thanks Sunni and Hayes for helping me pimp my book

Have a listen.

Sunni and Hayes and Me

I'm back promoting the Slime today on The Sunni and Hayes show, K-lite FM Hamilton.
These two are so huge in the Steel City that I'm freaking out about how much coverage this is going to give the book. Their ratings are amazing and I have nothing but respect for two people that can do mornings as long as they have and still be that successful and motivated. Okay, enough butt-licking just check me out after 8am Friday. Later I'll throw up the audio if I can.

Don't forget, soon it will be Christmas-Slime! Why not buy slime for all the kids on your list.
Great for stocking stuffer or just to say, Mom thanks for being you.

Another Slime Appearance Today-CHML am 900

Randee here, i just talked to Howard on his way to buttonville and he wanted me to let everyone know he'll be on Radio again today. Hey, for a guy who lost his job in Radio...he sure is on radio a lot.
Listen between 5pm and 6pm to Hamiltion's CHML Radio AM 900.
The Scott Thompson Show

Hi I'm back. Check the comments for a tiff between Boon and My Wife.

Anyway went flying and flew the Loc FrontCourse DME12 at Oshawa got vectored away on final to 4000 feet, came around and did the approach again and then went missed back to CKYZ, vectors to the Loc15 at Buttonville. If any of that made sense to you then you must have your IFR!

I already did the Scott Thompson show and my interview will air at 5:20. Scott is a new Radio People I Like!

Bryan Allen Talk Show

Another day another radio appearance. I'm going to be on with this talk show giant Bryan Allen on
CKNX Radio Wingham.

He was nice enough to let me hang with him and talk Slime and that's good news for all.
He seems like a good dude and as you know I appreciate any opportunity to advance the cause.
You know for someone with no job, I seem to be pretty busy. Check me and Bryan out at 9am here.

Maritime Mornings With Andrew Krystal

This is the Guy...

that gave me 1HOUR OF HIS FREAKING SHOW!

Yesterday AK had me on 95.7 in Halifax, for a solid hour to Pimp My Book" , and we got some great calls. I appreciated the time and chance to interact with his listeners a few of whom have already submitted their stories for TSTMD-2! Have you? If you have Slime I want it.

Radio People I Like...Part 2

I recently became aware that Radio People can help increase the "Visits" one gets to ones site.
I have almost never referred to myself as "one" and pledge to limit my use of it in the future.
Anyway. These so called Radio People seem to enjoy seeing themselves mentioned and then they tell their friends and so on and then all of a sudden your site is being read by more people than just your brother Steven and your mother-in-law Barb. Hi you two, thanks for your support.

So, the other day I started a list of Radio People to help get the ball rolling.
I don't know if it helped. I do know I won't be putting the little HyperLink Thingyon everyone's name again.
Too much work and as a former Radio People my self, you know we hate that.

This Gormly Guy was Good!

Just a big thanks to The John Gormly Show, The guy was unbelievably good, gracious, funny and it didn't hurt that he gave me 45 minutes of his show to Pimp my Book!
The guy has a great following, nice pipes and a cool "talk" show manner. I will have to quickly add him to my list of Radio People I Like! (see list below)
This guy would kick ass in Toronto, but he's too smart too leave what he's got. Check him out online someday.

Today a weird circle will be completed. Years ago on the Edge we had this publicist/marketing guy on our show once in a while. He would come in Friday mornings, sweating and babbling and frothing at the mouth, but he would make us laugh our butts off. He has turned into one of my favorite broadcasters. We worked together on MoJo, he got canned and I thought should have gone to New York, but he went East. He would call me at home every so often to talk strategy and life and today in Halifax I'll be on with Andrew Krystal. ....And now you know the rest of the story.

Larry Fedoruks Show Today on 610 CKTB

I'll be hanging out with my old pal Larry today between 5:40-6 talking Slime and other stuff.
I like his talk style and I've always found him very funny, so tune in today and make his show the only one you ever listen to again.
This is Larry. What's he thinking?

Find out today on CKTB 610.

Kiss Fm Ottawa this morning

As I mention earlier I was on with the nice peeps at Kiss Fm in our Nations Capitol around 7:30 doing the Slime publicity.
I'm starting to get my little patter down but each appearance is slightly different depending on the show.
Have a listen.
